We're thrilled to share the incredible collaboration we've had with the talented Joan of Art!! Together, we brought her fantastic concept to life, and guess what? You can experience it for yourself! Dive into the world of awe-inspiring sculptures and stunning architecture by booking a stay at Kimber's delightful three-bedroom Airbnb located in Seward Minneapolis. Or, just stop in to her studio on the first floor. Trust us, it's an experience you won't want to miss!

From initial sketch to glass masterpiece!

Artist in The World: Cathy Richardson

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1949, and raised in Falls Church, Virginia, Richardson holds a B.A. from Boston University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard, all in Geology. Despite her scientific background, she found her true calling in the world of art. Cathy Richardson's artistic journey took a fascinating turn in the mid-1980s when she transitioned from a successful career as a geologist.

Cathy Richardson skillfully transforms the fluid and dynamic nature of glass into mesmerizing works of art. Drawing inspiration from water, Richardson's creations not only contain and surround objects but also magnify them, resulting in magical effects that captivate the eye and spark the imagination.

Her paperweights and marbles, crafted within the Touchstone Glass family business located in Winona, MN, showcase exquisite three-dimensional environments that reflect Richardson's meticulous attention to detail and lifelong love of nature. The collaborative effort involves her son, Colin, and her husband, Steve, bringing her designs to life with a dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

Pictured above is one of Richardson's paperweights in process(right) and complete (left). Encasing the glass in crystal enhances visual effects, while engraving adds a personal touch and enriches the storytelling. Committed to longevity, her paperweights and marbles are not just artworks but timeless treasures crafted for a lifetime of enjoyment, seamlessly fusing geological insight, artistic vision, and the dynamic nature of glass.

Continuing our partnership with Vitreonics, we are offering another round of studio days for the online class offered by glass artist, Tim Carey. Work along with his videos while receiving in person studio access and assistance from all of us!

Join Potekglass' vibrant student community for exclusive access to workspaces, kilns, and materials. Dive into a captivating 2+ hour video led by Tim, unraveling the secrets of crafting abstract glass art with techniques from "The Resurrection Window." Open to all experience levels, from glass-painting beginners to seasoned artists eager to elevate their skills. Embrace the creative journey with us!

Kiln Try-iT! Glass Class

Simple to start endless in its potential; join us for 3 hour session of kiln forming glass through fusing and slumping. Compose a mosaic of color and form in this introduction to fusing glass in a kiln. Students will learn to cut patterns out of sheet glass, make frit, and work with a variety of glass formats by combining them in the kiln to produce a 5" x 5" glass tile that will then slump into a catch-all dish.

No experience or supplies necessary. Class cost covers glass and student tool kit rental for the session.

This is a certifying class for Open Studio: Kiln use on Free Glass Fridays and more.

Make iT! Stained Glass Snowflake 3D & 2D With Guest Instructor Samael Leopold-Sullivan

In this Make iT! Course with visiting artist Samael Leopold-Sullivan students will practice accurate cutting and foiling, edge soldering, 3D project construction, and will leave class with at least one completed snowflake ornament and perhaps some new glass friends! Beginning Stained Glass is required.

BYOT - Bring your own tools to this class. If you do not have glass already picked out for your snowflakes, please come by ahead of time to pick out your glass from the studio. Additional expenses may be necessary on top of this class cost. Reach out to Potekglass if you'd like to know the cost of any tools or supplies in advance.

Students must provide their own tools, rent or purchase them from us at the shop.

Enter the world of 3-D stained glass creation! In this class you'll practice accurate cutting and foiling, soldering a complex 3-D object, and learn how to make a hinge using copper tube. You will be able to leave class with a completed stained glass heart box to enjoy!
