Art in the Shop: NZB Attorneys at Law

"Bright Moments for Pangea"
Commission

Nancy Zalusky Berg commissioned me in 2019 to begin focusing my practice on an open ended artwork. 11 months later the piece is finally complete and installed. After a few lunches and some genuine conversation about the passion for her practice I wanted to create an abstract piece that reflected the interconnectedness of her international reach. A great desire to leave the world a better place, Nancy's commitment not to shy away from high conflict cases particularly those involving children drove the activity and movement throughout this lighted artwork.

Artist in the World: Preston Singletary

In his work, Preston Singletary combines Tlingit tradition with modern glass design. One of his most recent works is a collaboration with David Franklin titled, "Tlingit Dancing Staff". The design features two animals with great significance in Tlingit culture. There is a raven form at the top of the sculpture and wolf form at the bottom. Traditionally, Tlingit society is divided into two descent groups represented by these two animals.

Another work by Singletary is "Mosquito". This work is part of an exibition titled, Confluence. The pieces in this exhibition focus on different animal spirits. Singletary rethinks his indigenous culture using an atypical medium for indigenous art to create bold pieces.

Upcoming Classes at Potekglass

Class Note

PotekGlass continues to observe CDC guidelines including 6ft social distancing and masks in the shop. Classes and open sessions will have no more than 4 students and masks are required to participate.

Softglass 101: 4-Weeks of Lines, Dots, Barrels & Beads!

January 14, 21, 28 & February 4
Time: 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Intermediate Level Class*

In this class students will learn the tricks and techniques for making precise patterns and interesting surface designs.
The first half of class will focus on rondels, spheres and cylinders, and students will learn about precious metal glass, as well as, silver foil decoration.
The second half of class will focus on transforming cylinder beads into bi-cones & elegant tapers. Students will also learn decorative techniques including line, pattern, and raised scroll work.

Open Torch and Kiln Session

February 13th
Time: 1:30pm - 5:30pm
Certification Needed

Open torch session includes 4 hours on our torch equipment.

Open kiln session includes 4 hours on our equipment with a set of student tools, table workspace and quarter shelf portion of 24" round kiln to fire your projects.

Glass supplies are not included but may be purchased at the shop.

Kiln Try-It!

February 13th
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Beginner Level Class

In this course students will learn to cut patterns out of sheet glass, make frit, and work with a variety of glass formats by combing them in the kiln to produce a glass ring dish.
