Art in the World: Douglas Hamilton
Douglas Hamilton (1895-1959) was a Scottish stained glass artist. Church windows account from the majority of Hamilton's stained glass work. He made over 100 windows for churches both in Scotland, and for Scottish affiliated churches worldwide. Traditional religious stained glass, as well as war memorials, and Gaelic legends, are some of the themes found in church windows. In addition to religious work, Hamilton made secular pieces. Two examples of his secular work are shown above. These depictions of industry and contemporary life began to gain popularity around 1940.
